Cincinnati Timber Collective

Fall 2022, Instructor: De Peter Yi, School of Architecture and Interior Design

As the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati continues to grow, it needs more affordable housing and spaces for community organizations. Partly rooted in research and partly rooted in hands-on making, this course explores the design of buildings that combine both housing and collective amenities. The resultant projects challenge the typical relations of private and shared space as defined in the urban block. Furthermore, the use of mass timber construction nestled within the existing historic fabric celebrates and gives visibility to these spaces and their ability to shape the neighborhood’s future.
